congressional testimony next thursday about the attack on the u.s. consulate in benghazi has been postponed. >>> some developments to tell you about from here in newtown. first, president obama will be here tomorrow. the white house says the president will meet with the families of the victims, the 20 children and six adults killed in the elementary school yesterday. as for the alleged shooter, police say they have found very good evidence in his home and they are piecing together a possible motive. lanza's mother, the suspect's mother, was killed in that house before the deadly rampage at the school. i want to show you this picture that we got in to cnn just a couple of hours ago. it shows the suspect in 2005, he was about 13 years old in this picture. he was 20 yesterday when he shot himself dead after that shooting rampage at sandy hook elementary school. cnn's susan candiotti is also here in newtown. and she has been tracking the investigation both at the school and at the suspected killer's home. >> reporter: investigators are learning more each day that may explain what led 20-year-ol

and the aftermath of the attacks on benghazi and libya that killed the ambassador there and several others. so she's come under fire because of the administration's response. we've seen many veteran senators very critical of her, including senators john mccain and lindsey graham. they will have much more on "the situation room" as this news is just coming out, what this means. let me get to the statement here, the statement from the white house. quote, i spoke to ambassador rice and accepted her decision to remove her name -- this is the president -- remove her name from consideration for secretary of state. it goes on. for two decades susan has proven to be an extraordinarily capable, patriotic, and passionate public servant. as my ambassador to the united nations, she plays a role in american's interest. she has secured international support in sanctions against korea and stood up for sudan and stood for the human rights of all people. it goes on to say that he's very grateful that she will continue to serve as ambassador to the united nations. it's been widely known that she has been the topic.
immediately following what happened in benghazi and trying to explain that on behalf of the administration. when she went up to capitol hill to meet with lawmakers the visits backfired. they raised a lot of questions and she was there to try to answer them and try to assuage concerns, that was true with senator susan hollins of maine, a republican but a moderate and that was seen as very troubling in all of this process. some critic also say, don, that without the nomination, she was left twisting in the wind but there's also this sense that president obama has a whole lot on his plate. he's obviously involved in this fight over the striking a deal on the fiscal cliff, and then going into next year, a lot of goals obviously to follow on that entitlement reform, spending cuts, tax reform and don't forget immigration reform is also a priority, so i think there was a sense that do you really spend all of this political capital on this fight when there's so many other things to do. >> and so she referenced that as well in her letter that she put out yesterday. alyse, you cover the state depart
